Office: Area Events
10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Location: Maple River, location given at registration

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council is hosting a canoe and kayak trip down the Maple River. The Maple River is among the hidden paddling gems of Northern Michigan. It drains an extensive area (~107,620 acres) in Emmet and Cheboygan Counties, including Pleasantview Swamp, Larks Lake, and Douglas Lake. The lower section flows fast from Pellston to Burt Lake, twisting and turning through incredibly scenic terrain and full of challenging obstacles for the experienced paddling enthusiast! This section also boasts great water quality and is rated by the state as a high quality blue-ribbon trout stream. Join Kevin Cronk on a scenic paddle down this lower section of the Maple to soak up some of its pristine beauty firsthand and learn more about the river and issues affecting it.

The Maple River is fast in some areas, meandering, and full of obstacles (primarily overhanging or downed trees). Participants MUST BE EXPERIENCED canoeists/kayakers! There are challenging sections of the river that could be dangerous for inexperienced paddlers. This trip is limited to 15 participants. Pre-registration is required. $20 for TOMWC members, $25 for non-members.

To register contact Sandy at Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, 231-347-1181.
