"Great Music Explained" is June 6 Luncheon Lecture at NCMC
On Thursday, June 6, Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra (GLCO) Music Director Libor Ondras and legendary Bay View Music Festival organist Kelly Hale will offer a lecture on two masterworks being presented at Bay View a week later.
On Friday, June 14, the orchestra, will be joined by Kelly Hale to perform Camille Saint-Säens’ “Organ Symphony.” Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” will also be presented, along with the GLCO Chorus, Little Traverse Choral Society, Great Lakes Children’s Choir, and guest vocalists Amy Cross and Thomas Gunther, at the Bay View Association’s John M. Hall Auditorium.
Maestro Ondras and Professor Hale will discuss these iconic works and their composers in advance of the performance to enhance the concert experience.
For decades, Kelly Hale was the assembly organist and chamber orchestra conductor for the Bay View Music Festival. Libor Ondras is music director for the GLCO and Kent Philharmonic Orchestra, guest conductor for the Slovak State Opera, and string faculty and artist-in-residence at the Bay View Music Festival. As a violinist, he has performed with major orchestras in Europe and the United States.
The lecture will take place at noon in the college’s Library Conference Center on Howard Street in Petoskey. The Cost is $15 and includes a buffet lunch at 11:30.
