    Salary Range:             $45,000 to $50,000 annually commensurate with qualifications/experience, + comprehensive benefits package

    General Summary

    The city is seeking a self-motivated and organized individual to assist the city parks and perform a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, and open spaces.
     
    Supervision Received.
    Program guidance and oversight is received from the Parks and Recreation Director. The maintenance functions as a full-time employee with considerable independence in job related activities.
     

    Essential Job Functions

    An employee in this position may be called upon to do any of the following essential duties. Other duties may be assigned as necessary by the Parks and Recreation Director.
    • Operate vehicles and other small equipment
    •  Utilize a variety of hand and power tools in park landscape maintenance work
    • Assist in routine maintenance of such equipment
    • Complete work orders as requested within parks properties; plant trees, shrubs and flowers; prune trees; mulch flower beds; pull weeds from flower bed; water plants and trees; and use chemicals in the treatment of insects and weeds
    • Maintain City-owned parkland by cleaning facilities and remove litter; emptying of public trash and recycling receptacles; conduct visual inspections of park areas; and report problems or safety concerns to supervisor
    • Perform general carpentry, painting, repair park buildings, grounds and infrastructure; perform routine maintenance and related preventative maintenance
    • Plan, implement and complete basic construction projects; assist with special events
    • Snow removal within the Central Business District and at City Hall
    • Provide maintenance as needed within Central Business District; weed gardens, plant flowers, water flowers
    • Assist Department of Public Works as needed on certain projects

    Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications

    Proper methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
    • Safe work practices.
    • Basic construction and repair methods.
    • Ability to write, read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
     • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
     • Ability to send emails and text messages using smart phones.
    • Perform semi-skilled landscape maintenance work.
    • Operate a variety of equipment (ex// edger, trimmer, backpack blower, snowblower)
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others in person and on the telephone.  Employee may be required to travel to other locations and drive a car (a valid driver’s license is required).  The employee is also required to participate in outdoor physical recreation activities, which may require walking, lifting, carrying and other strenuous physical activity.
